Fuerteventura International Airport
Fuerteventura Airport (El Matorral) is the airport that serves flights to the Spanish island. It is located on the Canarian island of Fuerteventura, 5 km north of its capital, Puerto del Rosario. The airport has air links with more than 80 destinations around the world.
Most of the international flights from the airport are to the countries of the European Union. Domestic flights are dominated by Madrid and neighboring islands: Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
The official opening of the new airport took place on September 14, 1969. Since 1973, airplanes began flying from Fuerteventura Airport not only to the islands of the Canary archipelago and the continental Spain, but also to other countries Europe.
The airport has one modern, comfortable terminal. The first floor consists of two sections: one section is for the arrival of flights, and the other is the departure area. On the ground floor there is a departure hall and 24 boarding gates. In total, the terminal covers an area of more than 93,000 m2 and can serve up to 9 million passengers a year.

How to get to the popular places of El Matorral Island
From the airport to the capital and the main resorts, you can get in the following ways.
- Bus - the only form of public transport on Fuerteventura, the most economical way to get around the island. Bus routes connect all major settlements of Fuerteventura, and fares are very moderate (for example, the way from the airport to Morro Jable, a tourist town in the south of the island, will cost 7 euros, while a taxi will cost 10 times more). Air-conditioned comfortable buses follow strictly according to the schedule, which is available at each stop. If you plan to use the bus more than once, it makes sense to purchase a special card: paying for travel with it, you will receive a significant discount.
- Taxi. Taxis in Fuerteventura are mostly new and comfortable white cars with a green light on the roof or behind the windshield. The fare is paid according to the meter. Estimated cost of 1 km is about 1 euro. At night, the rate is slightly more expensive.
- Car rental.
Many major car rental companies are represented at the airport. If you have a driver's license, then renting a car at Fuerteventura Airport is a great option. Renting a car is the best way not to depend on bus schedules and not to spend large sums on taxis. The first and shortest route passes through FV-2 and FV-2, takes about 1 hour and is 84 km long. From Fuerteventura Airport turn left onto the exit towards Caleta de Fuste/Morro Jable/Jandíapi, exit onto FV-2, at the roundabout take the 3rd exit and continue onto FV-2, at the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Ctra. Puerto Rosario/FV-2, at the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Poligono Industrial el Cuchillete/FV-2, at the roundabout take the 2nd exit and continue onto Tarajalejo/FV-2, at the roundabout take the 2nd exit to Av. del Saladar/FV-2, at the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Av. de Jandia, with Av. de Jandía turns right and passes into C. Gambuesas and you reach the beautiful town of Morro Jable, with wide and magnificent beaches.
Another route passes through FV-2, takes just over 1 hour and is 85 km long. From Fuerteventura Airport take FV-2, take FV-413 and FV-20 towards Diego Alonso, continue on Diego Alonso towards FV-511, take FV-56 and FV-2 towards Av. de Jandía (Morro Jable), continue onto Av. de Jandía, head towards C. Gambuesas and you will reach Morro Jable.
